I’m losing my Marbles

Both girls were home sick today. We got a special visit to the ENT today, and some news…a new set of tubes. Woo Hoo!
I know, what counts for excitement around here is pretty mundane. But this means little-sis might not spend this whole winter in the doctor’s office. And that’s exciting.
By this afternoon all the resting had both feeling a bit better. So we made butter.
I have been wanting to try this for a while. All it takes is a container with a tight lid, some marbles, and whipping cream. Then there’s a whole lot of shaking goin’ on. It is a great way to keep two fidgety kids busy. It took quite a while. You actually get it all whipped up to hark peak stage, and then the magic happens. All the sudden you have a solid yellow lump and some liquid. We used a glass jar so you could watch it work.
We had cinnamon toast for our snack this evening…made with homemade butter.

I might have broken a glass jar doing that once - no kids required for that trick.
And, about the ear infections:
Do your girls consume lots of milk products and animal products? I recently read that the milk products especially are linked to frequent ear infections. I’ve mostly cut those things out of our family’s diet, and my main milk drinker (the boy) who had several ear infections last year and hearing loss (temporary, thank goodness) hasn’t had any trouble this year despite already having had a little cold.
Just a thought to ponder. In case you’re wondering, I read it in Disease Proof Your Child. I highly recommend the book. I’ve replaced milk with rice milk or soy milk. My son especially likes the rice milk. It’s quite sweet naturally. We eat many more veggies now, and I noticed the cold the kids had recently was very mild and short-lived, and I didn’t even get it. Same with the stomach that was going around their school. What most kids had for three days, they had for one. I’m pretty sure it’s the diet.
